Jaw Harp Player in Alberta Yurt at Golden Hour
by Kay Hood
Warm golden light spills across the interior of a circular yurt structure, illuminating dust motes suspended in the air. A person sits cross-legged on a thick woven rug, holding a brass jaw harp to their lips while fingers pluck the metal tongue. The fire in the center of the room casts flickering shadows that dance against the white fabric walls. Outside the circular window, early winter wind whips bare branches of nearby trees against a darkening sky. The subject wears a heavy wool coat and a fur-lined hat. Wooden poles radiate from the central crown, supporting the roof structure. The symmetrical arrangement of the interior frames the musician perfectly, showing the geometric lines of the poles against the soft texture of the fabric. One ember glows red in the hearth, casting a warm reflection on the polished brass instrument.
