Iridescent Oil Film on Glass in Edmonton Terminal

by George Wong

Soft daylight falls through sheer curtains, casting shifting bands of blue, purple, and orange across a glass pane inside a restored train terminal. A thin layer of oil creates interference patterns that ripple against the transparent surface. The colors rest on the smooth texture of the glass, against the industrial steel framework of the high windows. Sharp edges of the window frame define the boundaries of this small, vibrant patch of light floating on the pane. The dry season air remains still outside while the oily film holds its chaotic, colorful mosaic in place.
