Inkwell and Dried Roses on Mahogany by Rain Window

Honey-colored light from a setting sun spills across a polished mahogany dresser, illuminating a clear glass inkwell and a cluster of dried roses with brittle, brown petals. Rain streaks the adjacent window pane, blurring the outdoor greenery of the wet season into soft vertical smears. Reflections from the glass surface and the wet window slide across the lacquered wood, distorting the shapes of the objects below. Deep, warm shadows pool in the corners of the room, suggesting the sun has just dipped below the horizon. The dried roses rest directly beside the inkwell, their crinkled texture against the smooth, glossy wood. A faint reflection of the rain-streaked glass appears on the lower right edge of the dresser surface.
