Indonesian Galungan Bamboo Penjor in Maputo Square

Tall bamboo penjor poles stand clustered in a public square, their curved tops draped with woven palm leaves and bright orange flowers. The scene occurs at blue hour, where the fading sky casts a cool, even light over the wet pavement. Distant town lights glow softly on the horizon through a low layer of haze. A few festival attendees in casual clothing gather near the poles, their faces illuminated by the ambient glow of nearby street lamps. A colorful scarf rests loosely against a nearby wall, adding a splash of texture to the corner. The bamboo trunks show natural variations in green and brown, at the base of the display in the lived-in reality of a street corner. Dust motes catch the faint light near the base of the poles, and the edges of the frame reveal a hint of painted curb and a small shrub.
