Icicles Hang Over Candlelit Room With Tiny Buildings

by Takeshi Tanner

Rain streaks down the exterior glass while thick icicles dangle from the window frame, their jagged tips catching the soft tungsten glow from inside. Condensation blurs the nearby pane, separating the cold exterior from the warm interior where a single candle flickers. Along the bottom edge of the frame, miniature buildings the size of shoeboxes line the sill, their tiny windows glowing with the same amber light as the room. The scale shifts abruptly as the real window meets the model village, creating a sharp boundary between the heavy winter ice and the impossible architecture. A small puddle of melted water rests at the base of the nearest tiny tower, reflecting the candle flame.
