Hyacinth Macaw Perched in Palm Tree Near Kingston

Deep cobalt feathers of a hyacinth macaw contrast sharply against the golden-brown fronds of a palm tree. The bird sits motionless on a thick branch, its heavy yellow facial patch glowing under the low, clear mountain light of late afternoon. Below, a dry reed bed stretches toward the horizon, its stalks bleached pale by the dry season sun. The warm coastal air seems to suspend dust particles in the shafts of light that fall across the rough bark and the bird's smooth plumage. To the left, the edge of the water glimmers faintly, while the macaw's curved beak points downward in focused stillness. One yellow nail grips the wood tightly.
