Holi Powder Cloud Before Dawn in Kolkata Square
by Lois Clark
Cold moonlight spills across the wet cobblestones of a public square in Kolkata, illuminating a suspended cloud of vibrant colored powder. The fine dust glows in shades of magenta, teal, and yellow against the deep blue of the pre-dawn sky. Behind the swirling cloud, dark silhouettes of people stand with arms raised, their forms blurred by the motion of throwing the powder. Dry leaves and small debris rest on the stone ground, untouched by the festive chaos above. The bright colors create a stark contrast with the cool, monochromatic shadows of the surrounding buildings. A few distant street lamps cast faint pools of warm light on the pavement near the edges of the frame. The finest particles of powder settle slowly onto the shoulder of a person in the foreground, catching the moonlight like tiny stars. (128 words)
