Honeyed evening light spills across a stone courtyard in Sintra, illuminating ears of corn charred to black over glowing red coals. The corn rests on a metal grill, its kernels blistered and dark against the warm firelight. Raindrops glisten on the rough stone tiles and the metal grate, reflecting the orange embers below. A wooden handle extends from the grill, gripped by a hand steady against the heat. The symmetrical arrangement of the stones frames the cooking fire, while wet surfaces catch the flickering glow. Blackened husks curl at the edges, against the moist, glistening stone floor.
