Ascending figures painted in gold climb the curved vault of a basilica dome, their forms catching the soft, filtered light of early afternoon. Heavy curtains drape the high windows, casting vertical bands of shadow across the stone altar below. The muted, diffused quality of the light settles into the deep corners of the nave, where warm lamplight pools against the cool gray of the stone floor. A stone pillar frames the view, creating a secondary window into the golden expanse above. At the edge, the crisp boundary of a gold leaf meets the deep blue of the painted sky.
