Glowing Substation Busbars in Alaskan Twilight

by Joseph Horn

Ice-blue twilight washes over heavy steel busbars suspended inside a substation structure. The metal components emit a faint, steady glow as cooling systems engage under the endless summer light. Beside the equipment, the vertical rungs of a water tower ladder rise in sharp focus. Heat shimmer lifts from sun-struck concrete surfaces, distorting the air just above the ground. Signal lamps flicker to life, casting small pools of amber and red against the cool blue surroundings. The composition aligns the industrial lines in perfect symmetry, balancing the dark metal against the brightening sky. A reflection of the signal light shimmers on a wet patch of the paved ground.
