Glowing Furnace Door at Guéckédougou Glass Factory
by Lucy Davila
Rich amber sunset light spills across a concrete factory floor, illuminating dust motes suspended in humid air. A massive steel furnace door stands slightly ajar, revealing an intense core of white-hot glass melt that bleeds orange and yellow light onto the surrounding machinery. The heat distorts the air, creating shimmering ripples above the molten surface. Weathered control panels and rusted pipes line the walls, their textures deepened by the low-angle sun. The floor shows scuff marks and scattered debris, evidence of daily labor. Leading lines of steel beams and conveyor tracks converge toward the glowing aperture, drawing the eye directly to the intense heat source. A faint reflection of the fire glimmers on a wet patch near the threshold, marking the recent rain.
