Giant Koi Over Railway Bridge at Dawn

Cold silver dawn light spills over a stone railway bridge spanning a deep, shadowed chasm beside the fogbound harbor mouth of al-Bab. A rack railway track cuts horizontally across the gray masonry, disappearing into the thick mist. Above the bridge, a colossal koi fish hangs motionless in the heavy overcast sky, its orange and white scales reflecting the pale morning glow. The water below churns faintly within the chasm, while the harbor fog rests on the distant shoreline. The impossible fish casts a soft, diffuse shadow on the bridge stones below, at the base of the surreal element in the tangible stone and metal. One ripple disturbs the dark water at the base of the cliff face.
