Gas Compressor Station in Wet Wheat Field in along freshly irrigated rows in Kinshasa

Gas Compressor Station in Wet Wheat Field

by Evelyn Bartlett

Low morning light touches a thin layer of mist rising from freshly irrigated wheat rows in Kinshasa. A large industrial gas compressor station stands firmly among the green stalks, its metal surfaces reflecting the pale dawn. Strong winds whip the wheat into uniform waves that ripple across the foreground. The machinery, painted in utilitarian shades, contrasts with the soft, wet vegetation surrounding it. Overhead, the sky remains a dull gray, heavy with the promise of continued rain. Water droplets rest on the leaves, glistening in the dim light. A heavy steel pipe runs along the ground, disappearing into the field's edge.
