Frost and Fungus on Aged Cheese Near Window

by Francisco Woodard

Pale walls bounce broad midmorning skylight into a warm, shadowed interior along a frost-edged windowpane. The extreme close-up reveals a rugged cheese rind where white mold blooms in fuzzy clusters against a cracked, yellowing surface. Delicate ice crystals rest on the glass frame, their sharp geometric edges against the soft, organic growth of the fungus. A shallow depth of field blurs the background into a wash of cream and gray, isolating the texture of the aging food. The frost melts slightly where the warm light hits, leaving tiny droplets on the cold glass. One patch of green spores rests at the edge of a white filament.
