Fluorescent Lit Offering Table in Beijing Chapel

Harsh fluorescent tubes illuminate a wooden altar draped in broad green banana leaves. Three brown, hairy coconuts rest in the center, flanked by clusters of white and orange marigold blossoms. The wood grain appears worn and slightly oily under the artificial illumination. A dark, rectangular frame surrounds the offering table, creating a window within the chapel's interior. Deep shadows pool in the corners where the light fails to reach, against the bright highlights on the fruit skins. The arrangement of petals and leaves remains undisturbed. One reflection of the overhead fixture glimmers on the polished surface of the nearest coconut.
