Florist Stall in Beirut

by Peter Skinner

Bright late morning light floods a narrow Beirut alley, illuminating a florist’s cluttered stall where stacks of white ceramic plates sit precariously beside woven folding stools. Fresh citrus peel, bright orange against the gray stone, rests near an enamel pitcher that catches a sharp glint of sun. Mosaic tile fragments, leftover from a nearby renovation, are scattered like confetti on the dusty ground, adding texture to the scene. Ivy vines climb the weathered plaster wall, their green leaves against the bright paint of the shopfront. A folding fan, half-open, leans against a crate of flowers, its patterned paper catching the light.
