Fisherman Hauling Line in Late Autumn Drizzle
Wet cobblestones of the Durban harbor quay glisten under a thin veil of late autumn rain, reflecting the pale, dry mountain light filtering through the drizzle. A fisherman in a heavy, oil-stained yellow slicker stands braced against the swells, his back turned as he hauls a thick rope that cuts a diagonal line across the frame. The rope, dark and slick with seawater, pulls taut against his grip, leading toward the churning, grey-green sea where whitecaps break against the stone pier. Autumn leaves, brown and curled, rest on the damp metal railings and float in the shallow puddles near his boots. The vastness of the ocean fills the background, showing the solitary figure against the immense, churning water. One droplet of rain slides down the rough texture of the rope, catching the light before falling into the dark water below.
