The deep blue twilight of Durban’s beachfront promenade washes over a weathered wooden bench where a cluster of colorful fishing floats rests beside a pair of worn rubber boots. A fisherman’s hands, stained with salt and tobacco, carefully strike a match against the rough side of a ceramic bowl, the sudden orange flare illuminating the steam rising from a nearby thermos. The background reveals the blurred, glowing skyline of the city center across the bay, with the dark silhouettes of palm trees framing the scene. One bubble, blown by a passing child, drifts across the foreground, catching the reflection of the distant streetlights before popping against the wet wood.
