Duplicated Observatory Dome Grid Winter Light

by Christine Dyer

Copper-toned light washes the rusted iron rim of an open observatory dome, revealing a grid of identical structures stretching into the distance. Each dome mirrors the foreground subject perfectly, creating a repeating pattern that defies spatial logic. Snow dusts the metal surfaces and the bare ground below, while salt-bleached equipment stands frozen in the cold air. The tight framing isolates the nearest opening, where the sky peeks through the curved architecture. Rows of these identical domes recede sharply, maintaining exact proportions as they vanish toward the horizon. One shadow falls across the nearest railing, at the base of the impossible repetition in tangible texture.
