Indigo twilight fills the vast interior of a prayer hall near Hosier Lane in Melbourne, where a drum major stands at the head of a marching band. Sodium-vapor light from the street outside casts a warm, yellow-orange glow across the polished wooden floor and the backs of the uniformed musicians. Dramatic clouds swirl in the deep blue sky visible through high clerestory windows, against the artificial warmth below. The drum major holds a mace aloft, its metallic tip catching the streetlight. Rows of instruments gleam under the dim, mixed lighting. The high vaulted ceiling creates clear spacious grandeur. One brass bell rests on a low table in the foreground, reflecting the indigo hue of the evening sky.
