Mist rests on the weatherboard siding of a terrace house in Thorndon, softening the sharp geometry of corrugated iron gutters and the vibrant green of a flax plant spilling from a cracked terracotta pot. On a narrow concrete landing, a faded red peg basket sits slightly askew, its woven texture rough against the damp stone, while a single iron hook protrudes from the wall, holding a frayed yellow towel that catches the diffuse gray light. Water marks stain the pale blue painted plaster near the doorframe, evidence of recent rain, and a chipped enamel wash basin rests on a low ledge, its white surface dull with age.
