Theater spotlights slice through thick, humid haze to illuminate a West African djembe drummer in a spacious Podgorica rehearsal room. The musician sits cross-legged on a concrete floor, hands gripping the taut hide of a goblet drum carved from dark wood. Late autumn light does not reach this interior; instead, sharp beams of white and amber cut through the moisture in the air, revealing dust particles suspended above the performer. Behind the drummer, a wide panoramic view shows high industrial ceilings and rows of empty metal chairs, suggesting a space prepared for a larger gathering.
