Dewdrop Refracting Wildflower Meadow in Tokyo

by Dominic Rutledge

One spherical water droplet rests on the interior edge of a glass pane, acting as a microscopic lens. Through its curved surface, a vibrant wildflower meadow appears inverted and magnified, displaying delicate petals in shades of violet and yellow. The glass itself bears a thin rim of frost along the top corner, against the warm, diffused light filtering through sheer curtains. Soft interior shadows stretch across the window frame, at the base of the droplet in a quiet Shinjuku apartment. The background outside the drop blurs into a wash of green and pink, while the droplet's surface tension holds the inverted landscape in sharp, distorted focus. A tiny reflection of a curtain fold rests on the lower curve of the sphere.
