Dawn Marshland Reeds Lebanon Dry Season Sun Shower

by Addison Garrett

Pale gold light strikes the horizon haze above a vast expanse of dry marshland in Lebanon. Tall, brittle reeds stand in dense clusters, their tan stalks reaching upward against a sky streaked with soft gray clouds. Water droplets fall in scattered sheets, catching the low sun to create shimmering vertical lines that cut through the stillness. The ground appears cracked and dusty, against the wet sheen on the reed tips. From a high vantage point, the landscape stretches out in layers of earth tones, from deep ochre soil to bleached straw. Raindrops ripple the shallow pools between the stalks, distorting the reflection of the brightening sky. One droplet slides down a reed tip, hanging momentarily before falling into the dark water below.
