Mist rests on the corrugated zinc roof of a street-side tortilleria, diffusing the pale dawn light into a cool, uniform gray that softens the sharp edges of the surrounding concrete buildings. Inside the open frontage, a vendor in a faded blue apron lifts a steaming metal tamalera, the heavy lid revealing rows of corn husks tied with dried leaves, while the steam rises in thick, slow columns that catch the weak morning glow. To the left, a stack of yellow plastic crates holds fresh avocados and red chilies, their colors vibrant against the damp, peeling paint of the exterior wall.
