Copper Light Over Namibian Cornfield Edge Before Storm in between vineyard trellises in Namibia

Copper Light Over Namibian Cornfield Edge Before Storm

by Brendan Orozco

Overhead, rows of dry corn stalks bend sharply in a unified direction where they meet the edge of a vineyard. The grain tips catch the low, copper-toned sun skimming across the tops, creating a bright, shimmering ridge against the darkening stalks below. Above, heavy gray overcast clouds press down, their undersides bruising the sky while the horizon remains a narrow band of warm, fading light. Wooden trellis posts stand in rigid lines beside the swaying corn, their shadows stretching long and thin across the dusty soil. The texture of the dried leaves appears brittle and rough, against the smooth, taut wires of the vineyard support system. One shadow from a trellis post falls across the bent corn, marking the boundary between the two crops.
