Copper Light on Kashmir Hanging Valley Waterfall in along a wave-cut shoreline in Kashmir

Copper Light on Kashmir Hanging Valley Waterfall

by Gilbert Pugh

Copper-toned firelight washes the rugged cliff face of a hanging valley in Kashmir, where a thin ribbon of water plunges from the precipice. The wind whips loose debris across the rocky ledge, creating a dynamic texture against the stillness of the stone. Below, the wave-cut shoreline meets the darkening water, its surface rippled by the gusts. The turn of seasons is visible in the sparse, browned vegetation clinging to the crevices, against the smooth, dark rock. The light casts long, warm shadows that stretch across the cliff, highlighting the rough grain of the stone. One droplet of water clings to a jagged edge, catching the fading glow before falling into the mist below.
