Condensation after dark in Fukuoka

A weathered wooden counter in a narrow Fukuoka izakaya glows under the harsh fluorescence of a red neon sign, anchoring the frame with its grain and scars. Condensation beads on a cold glass of shochu while a pair of chopsticks rests on a ceramic holder, catching the edge of the neon spill. Behind the bar, shelves of stacked sake bottles and hanging dried squid create a dense, textured backdrop that proves the local culinary culture. One drop of water slides down the glass, refracting the red light into a distorted streak against the dark wood.
