Rain-darkened tiles outside a kiosk in Oruro transition abruptly into golden sand dunes beneath the feet of rushing commuters. Late afternoon sun ricochets off the wet metal of passing buses and glass windows, creating sharp, blinding highlights against the heavy overcast sky. The crowd moves with urgency, their shoes sinking slightly into the impossible dunes while others step firmly on the slick pavement. Foreground bokeh softens the edge of a nearby street sign, blurring the boundary between the urban street and the desert floor. The texture of the sand contrasts with the wet sheen of the city, merging two distinct worlds in a single, seamless plane under the gray monsoon clouds.
