A flat noon light washes over a narrow alleyway in Mexico City, where a weathered concrete wall meets a vibrant blue painted storefront. A rusted iron hook protrudes from the plaster, holding a faded yellow door mat that flaps slightly in the stagnant heat. Below, a white plastic laundry basket sits overturned on the cobblestone, spilling out a tangle of damp towels and a single pair of sandals. The harsh light creates deep, sharp shadows beneath the awning, against the bright, sun-bleached paint on the adjacent building. A potted herb plant, likely cilantro, grows from a crack in the pavement near the basket, its green leaves stark against the gray stone.
