Steel-blue twilight washes over a crumbling cinder-block wall spilling debris into a narrow back alley beside a corner cafe in Kuala Terengganu. Rough, gray concrete chunks rest atop cracked asphalt, while loose mortar dust coats the lower courses of the masonry. Low-hanging clouds press against the sky, diffusing the fading indigo light that silhouettes the jagged edges of the broken blocks. A metal shutter on the adjacent building reflects the dull ambient glow, its surface pitted with rust. The alley narrows between the decaying structure and the cafe's tiled entrance, where scattered tiles lie askew. One shadow stretches across the wet ground, ending at a pile of loose rubble.
