Pale gray steam curls upward from wet metal grates set into the sidewalk outside a Chongqing metro entrance. A solitary bus stop shelter rests at the edge of the frame, its glass panels catching sweeping beams of lighthouse-like light that slice through the deep night. Rain-soaked concrete glistens across the ground, reflecting streaks of neon red and blue from nearby signs. Shadows stretch long and sharp across the pavement where the dry season dust meets recent moisture. Beside the shelter's leg, a puddle mirrors the flickering orange glow of a distant streetlamp. The wet surfaces hold the city colors in sharp, unmoving detail.
