Chamomile Harvest Among Terraced Rice Paddies

Bright midmorning sunlight reflects intensely off the irrigation water filling the channels between terraced rice paddies in Kazakhstan. White chamomile daisies stand in neat rows, their yellow centers against the shimmering blue-green water. The terraced stone walls curve gently around the landscape, creating distinct levels for the crops. Early autumn is visible in the slightly dried, golden tips of the grass along the ridges. Farmers work quietly among the plants, their movements slow and deliberate as they gather the flowers. The water acts as a mirror, doubling the white petals and the pale sky above. One droplet of water rests on the edge of a broad leaf, refracting the light into a tiny prism.
