Brass Mallet in Beijing

A brass mallet rests against the peeling red lacquer of a traditional Beijing doorframe, illuminated by the deep blue twilight of the evening. The heavy wooden handle shows signs of wear, against the smooth, polished curve of the metal head which catches the faint ambient light. Nearby, a faded red couplet hangs loosely from the upper frame, its characters slightly blurred by the low light conditions of the hour. One drop of moisture rests on the edge of the metal, reflecting the dim sky above the courtyard entrance.
