Basalt Headland Glacial Tarn Late Summer Afternoon

by Cameron Wong

Dark gray basalt formations rise sharply from the water's edge, their jagged surfaces catching the harsh, direct light of an early afternoon sun. A small glacial tarn nestles within the rocky basin, its surface reflecting the perfectly clear blue sky above. Wisps of white mist drift slowly across the water, thinning as the warm evening sun begins to soften the scene's intensity. The surrounding terrain is a mix of weathered stone and sparse, dry late-summer vegetation clinging to the slopes. From this elevated perspective, the contrast between the cold, dark rock and the bright, shimmering water creates a stark, expansive view. The mist curls gently around the base of the largest rock spire, its edges dissolving into the dry air.
