Copper-toned light spills across the polished floor of a ceremonial hall in Silopi, illuminating figures draped in black top hats and heavy suits. The molten side light carves deep shadows across the textured fabric of the Baron Samedi costumes, highlighting the stark white painted faces and dark eye sockets. Layers of depth recede into the distance where low-hanging clouds outside the high windows blur the boundary between interior and sky. Early winter chill is suggested by the heavy wool coats worn by attendees standing in the periphery. One red rose rests on a wooden table in the foreground, its stem catching the last golden rays of the setting sun.
