Balcony Workbench in Athens
by Lane Nolan
A narrow Athenian balcony at blue hour, where the cool ambient light from the street below clashes with the warm, artificial glow spilling from an open window. A weathered red lacquered wood workbench dominates the foreground, cluttered with the tools of a local tailor: a silver locket resting near a spool of thread, a glass vase holding dried basil stems, and a single white dressmaker chalk mark on a scrap of linen. In the background, the faint silhouette of the Acropolis is barely visible against the deepening indigo sky, while a cast-iron caster wheel from a nearby cart catches a stray reflection of a neon pharmacy sign.
