Balcony at Blue Hour in Rome
by Lorene Diaz
Blue hour settles over a narrow Roman courtyard where terracotta tiles reflect the deepening sky. A wrought-iron balcony overlooks the scene, casting long, sharp shadows across the ground below. In the foreground, a weathered work stool sits beside a sink embedded in a stone counter, its metal basin catching the faint ambient light. Glass tumblers rest on the edge, condensation visible on their surfaces, hinting at recent use. Nearby, a clay pot holds a small olive branch, its leaves silhouetted against the dimming light. The composition balances the vertical lines of the balcony railing with the horizontal planes of the courtyard, showing depth and quiet domesticity typical of a late evening in the city.
