Aurora bands over frozen waterfall Alberta night in from a quiet alpine saddle in Alberta

Aurora bands over frozen waterfall Alberta night

by Faith Pruitt

Vivid green and violet ribbons of the aurora borealis stretch across the deepest night sky, arcing in broad bands above a massive sheet of frozen waterfall. The ice surface gleams with a pale, moonlit sheen, revealing rough textures where water once cascaded. A faint atmospheric haze softens the distant tree line on the alpine saddle, while the air remains unusually clear from recent rain. Snow dusts the foreground rocks, against the dark, solid mass of the ice. The horizon glows with a subtle, cool light, at the base of the ethereal display in the rugged terrain of Alberta. Sharp edges of the frozen water catch the starlight, creating a jagged silhouette against the luminous sky.
