Wool Scarf in Istanbul

Late afternoon sun slants through the narrow gap of a Galata backstreet, illuminating a weathered wooden doorframe where a local resident hangs a thick wool scarf to catch the last heat. The fabric, dyed in deep indigo, contrasts sharply with the peeling ochre plaster and the rusted iron hinges that anchor the scene to Istanbul’s historic fabric. A simple metal dish rack sits on a low ledge nearby, holding a few drying ceramic cups that reflect the warm, directional light. A passing shadow from a overhead laundry line cuts across the scarf, momentarily darkening the weave before the light returns.
