Wooden Tray in Kyoto
by Brynn Newton
A small wooden tray rests on a weathered stone step in a quiet Kyoto alley during the clear afternoon. The tray holds a single ceramic bowl, its rim marked by dried drips of glaze that catch the sunlight. Beside the bowl, a simple dish brush lies on its side, its bristles worn from use and dusted with fine powder. Shadows from nearby maple leaves dapple the stone surface, creating a pattern of light and dark that shifts with the breeze.
