Winter Orchestra in Seeb Palace Hall
by Edna Park
Golden hour light falls through tall arched windows, illuminating dust motes dancing above the polished wooden floor of the Seeb palace hall. The chamber orchestra sits in strict rows, their formal black attire against the cream-colored stucco walls and gilded moldings of the baroque architecture. Musicians hold violins and cellos, bows poised mid-air in a frozen moment of rhythmic ceremonial force. Outside the windows, low-hanging winter clouds obscure the horizon, casting a soft, diffused glow that highlights the intricate carvings on the ceiling and the brass sheen of the instruments. In the immediate foreground, blurred shapes of distant chairs create a soft bokeh, drawing focus to the performers. The final beam of sunlight catches the edge of a violin scroll, revealing fine wood grain against the dark fabric of the sleeve.
