Golden honeyed light from a low horizon wraps the steel rails and gates of a Norwegian stockyard loading ramp. Steam rises steadily from scraped concrete floors where ear-tagged dairy cattle stand in a winter holding pen. Cold breath clouds hang visibly around the metal bars against a backdrop of low gray clouds. The scene balances the heavy infrastructure of the ramp with the open land beyond. Teat-dip buckets sit ready on the ground near the animals. Frost lines the edges of the metal surfaces. A faint reflection of the amber sky glimmers on a wet patch of concrete near the front gate.
