Window Box in Hobart
by Natalia Vega
A weathered wooden window box rests on the rough stone sill of a colonial terrace in Hobart, its timber darkened by years of damp sea air. The grey mist of dawn softens the background, leaving only the sharp outline of eucalyptus branches visible through the thin fog. Inside the box, a tangle of hardy ivy vines spills over the edge, their waxy leaves glistening with heavy morning condensation. One drop of water rests on the tip of a trailing leaf, reflecting the pale, diffuse light of the overcast sky.
