Weighing Grapes in San Diego

A bustling outdoor produce stand in the East Village district shows the chaotic geometry of flat noon light hitting stacked crates of green grapes and yellow peppers. A vendor in a faded blue shirt leans over a metal scale, adjusting a blue and white porcelain jar used for weighing bulk goods, while a customer’s hand reaches in to inspect a cluster of fruit. Nearby, a wicker basket casts a sharp, geometric shadow against the rough stucco wall of a nearby building, against the slick plastic of a nearby tool caddy left on the counter.
