Arranging Melons in Paris

by Steve Garcia

A sun-drenched corner of a Parisian fruit stall reveals a chaotic pyramid of cantaloupes and honeydews resting on slatted wooden crates. The late afternoon light slants sharply across the produce, casting long, geometric shadows that cut through the vibrant green rinds. A vendor’s hand, blurred by motion, reaches in to adjust a stack of melons near a rusted iron hook mounted on the stall’s wooden post. Behind the fruit, a glass display case reflects the busy street, while a small dog rests quietly beneath the counter, its fur catching the warm glow.
