Salt crystals dust the dark collar of a heavy wool coat, catching the pale midmorning light filtering through low-hanging winter clouds. The subject stands framed tightly against a peeling, grey timber doorway near Karangahape Road, his face marked by deep lines and a steady, unwavering gaze that meets the lens directly.
