Waterfall Skillet Surreal Basra Interior in on a velvet chair near Basra

Waterfall Skillet Surreal Basra Interior

by Danny Little

Bright midmorning skylight floods a pale room near Basra, illuminating dust motes dancing in sharp shafts across the floor. A black cast-iron skillet rests on a woven trivet atop a deep velvet chair, its surface dull and textured. Behind the chair, a narrow crack in the plaster wall releases a continuous, impossible stream of water that cascades downward without a source or destination. The liquid flows over the chair's armrest and pools onto the floor, defying the room's dry, midsummer stillness. The velvet fabric absorbs the light, creating soft shadows around the metal vessel. one drop of water rests on the skillet's rim before falling into the growing puddle below.
