Sunlight floods the narrow, limestone-walled alley of Jabal Amman, casting sharp, geometric shadows from the wooden shutters of a closed habibi bakery. A young man in a faded blue thobe leans against the rough, sun-warmed stone facade, holding a small, rusted metal peg rail he has just removed for repair. His work tool caddy, filled with chisels and scrapers, sits on the dusty concrete step beside him, next to a scrub brush stained with old mortar. He pauses to wipe sweat from his forehead, glancing up at the intricate plasterwork above his head where the peg rail’s shadow stretches across the warm, textured wall.
