Volunteers Knocking Doors Courthouse Aqaba Winter
by Becky Byrd
Soft overcast light falls through the high windows of a stone corridor in Aqaba, illuminating two campaign volunteers standing before a heavy wooden door. The early afternoon sun casts no harsh shadows, only a flat, even glow on the beige terracotta tiles. In the foreground, thick black broadcast cables snake across the floor, tangled with stacks of paper notices printed in Arabic and English. The volunteers wear heavy winter coats and scarves, their breath visible in the cold air. One figure holds a clipboard, while the other reaches for the brass door knocker. The texture of the rough-hewn stone walls contrasts with the smooth, glossy surface of the paper flyers scattered near their feet. One notice flutters slightly against the cable.
